3 Common Cosmetic Dental Problems and the Treatments to Address Them
February 8, 2024
There’s no shortage of ways that someone can be unhappy with their smile. Even if your smile is technically healthy, you still might not be all that happy with what you see in the mirror each day. Thankfully, there are also a variety of cosmetic dental procedures out there. They can be used to deal with just about any issue that you could have with your smile, giving you teeth that you can take true pride in.
Here are some of the most common issues that people often have with their teeth, along with the cosmetic treatments that can be used to address them.
Yellow Smile
If you have a bit of a coffee habit, you’re a smoker, or maybe if you’re just getting a little older, your teeth may be a little bit yellower than you would like. Discolored teeth are common, which is why it’s a good thing that there are plenty of ways to deal with them.
Teeth whitening is the obvious example. Within a single appointment, a specialized whitening solution can drastically brighten your smile. You can also cover up discolored teeth with direct bonding and veneers.
Gummy Smile
Have you ever looked at your smile and thought that you see a little bit too much gum? While this could be due to factors like the shape of your mouth or the way you hold your jaw, it might also be the case that your gums just cover an unusually large portion of your teeth.
Gum recontouring is a treatment that involves removing a small amount of gum tissue, remedying the issue of a gummy smile.
Crooked/Gapped Smile
Not only do misaligned teeth make an impact on how you look, it also often makes it difficult to adequately clean your teeth, increasing your risk of certain oral health problems.
As you can imagine, Invisalign aligners can be incredibly useful in straightening out your smile. They also allow you to skirt the need for wires and brackets, a major aesthetic boon when compared to other methods of straightening your teeth.
You may also be interested in veneers, which can be used to change the apparent shape of your teeth. This can bring gapped teeth together and stop crooked teeth from overlapping.
